An Insight into the Russian Router Hack Case

According to the investigations, the VPNFilter has infected around half million of the consumers. In addition, nearly 54 countries are under the radar of this malicious software which shows its damage criteria. Here, routers of different companies came under the radar of VPNFilter. Where, some of them were TP-Link, MicroTik, NetGear and tons of other routers were the victims of VPNFilter.

On the part of the FBI, they sent a legal notice which was recommended for every other person and company. They said the different homes and offices to turn off their routers. Reboot it and with this, the malware will find it really tough to infect your router.

The FBI said that this attack was truly significant. Also, the United States Justice Department has clubbed the malware into a group known as “Sofacy” or “APT 28” or “Fancy Bear”. As of now, whatever the hacker’s game is, the cyber researchers believe that the group has links with the Russian government.

Also, Talos found the same kind of computer code in the malware attack whichby the name, “Black Energy”. Such type of attack was in association with multiple attacks where the total power shutdown took place. These shutdown process took on the devices which were there in Ukraine where the Russian hackers did their hacking work. The Russian Hackers were highly motivated by the eastern provinces of Ukraine to a great extent.

But, there are still some things which are yet to be taken into consideration. First of all, the routers are brought back to its factory settings. And, even the router firmware software is up to date. In addition, to prevent the Russian Router hack, you can increase your password strength after the reboot process gets over. At last, disabling the remote administration can prevent the hackers from hacking into the router data.

What Can the Internet Users do in this case?

One major way in which you can secure your router privacy is with the use of a VPN. Yes, with a VPN, your routers privacy can become much stronger and stringent. Also, you can even hide your IP address and can levy more amount of security to your router.

Now, as the Russian Router Hack is in place, VPNFilter malware can still do some amount of damage. Hence, as a smart person, choose a reliable VPN service provider and protect your router from such types of malware. But as of now, nobody knows what the VPNFilter has in the bag for router users.
