In the present day world, piracy is definitely on the highest rate where hundreds of websites are opening each day. The anti-piracy companies are trying their hard to bring piracy under control but still, not much is happening. This time, Netflix has taken things a step ahead and have partnered with the Thai anti-piracy agency in Thailand.

Launched yesterday, COPTICS is a joint partnership between the country’s Intellectual property department and the Thai Police. They are aiming to block pirate sites in a process which will take a few months.

Netflix Filing a complaint Along with the Thai Anti-Piracy Agency

When we compare Netflix with other companies, it definitely has a lot more structured approach to fight piracy.  However, they have spent billion dollars to make their own content whereas the company is an integral part of the Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) which is a global anti-piracy coalition.

On the basis of a report which came out in March 2018, by the year 2020, Netflix will have a whopping 546,000 customers in Thailand.

However, Piracy is ever changing and none of the companies has got a firm grip on the same.

Still, for alleviating the current situation and help Netflix, the government of Thailand launched their very own Anti-Piracy Agency.

During a recent press conference where the “Center of Operational Policing for Thailand Against Intellectual Property Violations and Crimes on the Internet Suppression (COPTICS) was launched, something was noted.

Here, the current procedure is truly inadequate and will not do much to block pirate sites.

Hence, now, the mission is to boost the process and aim to block pirate sites within a matter of months.

As it appears, if Netflix achieves to do it, they will be the first company to test the water and make way for other companies.

A Word of Mouth by the NBTC

“The Royal Thai Police (RTP) and the Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) have been charged with a cooperative mission to suppress and prevent the proliferation of counterfeit products and online piracy,” an NBTC statement reads.

“This follows a number of expressions of serious concern from international allies such as the US, Japan, and others whose domestic companies’ IP rights are being infringed in the form of counterfeit handbags, clothes, makeup, electronic devices, and digital piracy.”

After the launch of the Anti-Piracy agency, Netflix along with other companies have filed their complaints to the court.

However, it’s not pretty much clear which of the platforms are in the listing of government authorities. But, according to the government, the companies must first file their complaints to TACTICS.

Once the copyright complaint is received to the police, it will be handed over to the NBTC. Then the NBTC will order the ISP’s to block pirate websites at the earliest.
