Movie Company Demanding a fine of €200,000 From YouTube On Pirated Film

Talking about an average scale, daily around half a million videos are uploaded on YouTube. Now, such video content does include some piracy contents whereas full-length films form an integral part of such stuff.

Now, this is not a brand new problem in YouTube as the same is being run for decades for now. Here, as and when the copyright holders find new content, they report it and YouTube takes down that video after some time.

However, as per the Dutch film production company named Farmhouse TV & Film, this is definitely not enough.

As of now, the company made the film “Redbad” which was premiered this summer. The film had a massive budget and large sums of money were involved in the film. However, after its release, the collection rate was surely down and the film didn’t get hit as expected.

Hence, while the film failed to bring people to theatres, it did incredibly well on YouTube. According to the Farmhouse TV & Film, the film which was uploaded on YouTube attracted half a million videos in less time.

Surely, the production company is not happy with such stuff and thereby demanding an amount of €200,000 from YouTube.

A Word of Mouth by Klaas de Jong

“This way, YouTube has created a revenue model out of the illegal distribution of content, enough is enough. We’re talking about an illegal and criminal offense, and YouTube is not taking responsibility. This leads to a situation in which we as producers have to check for illegal links to our films on YouTube every week and beg to have them removed, after which they immediately reappear through another channel.”

However, from the side of YouTube, they haven’t said anything in this critical case. In addition, they are telling the right holders to take the content’s infringing copy offline and report it further.

On the producer side, he truly believes that such behaviour from YouTube is irrelevant and the harm is done already. With this, even any other person can re-upload the copy of the pirated film and make the further amount of money.
