Internet Piracy in Russia has drastically increased in past years, and Russian government blames social media for its hyper growth.

As the Russian Minister of Culture said that social media platform are labeled as information intermediaries, but they must take action against any copyright infringement on their sites otherwise they would be held responsible for the increasing internet piracy in Russia, due to millions of users now sharing copyrighted materials on social networking platforms which are a great threat for the copyright freaks. All torrenting and P2P file sharing sites are banned and blocked by ISPs in many countries including Russia, to access all the blocked sites from any country use the best VPN for Torrenting.

Internet piracy through social media is a problem particularly for Russia as the users sharing full movies, TV shows, and music, via platforms such as vKontakte, Russia’s Facebook. Such sites in Russia claim to be fully abiding all the copyright laws.

Social networking platforms currently enjoy the label of ‘information intermediary’ in Russia, a standing that puts them on a par with Internet service providers who can not generally be held liable for the infringing acts of their subscribers.

However, the Ministry of Culture believes that since much of the copyright infringement in Russia is now carried out via social networks, it will soon be necessary to strip them of their intermediary status. That would have the effect of rendering them jointly liable for infringement alongside their errant subscribers.
