On 26th April 2017, Ajit Pai, the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) dumped the Net neutrality law made in Obama administration and is going to repeal the Net neutrality law in the United States as he gained position and power now in the Trump presidency. This move was speculated as Trump signs internet privacy legislation in the US.

    BACKGROUND OF NET NEUTRALITY LAW

The actual purpose of Pai’s net neutrality rollback is FCC’s law which was made in February 2015, which re categorized the Internet service providers (ISPs) as common carriers under Title II of the Communications Act. This was the reason rules are made which ceased and banned the ISPs from blocking or throttling content, or from giving favors to certain types of websites over others and interfere in the content of web while providing Internet services to consumers (use the most secure VPN services to avoid ISP throttling).
FCC’s ex chairman, Democrat Tom Wheeler and the companies such as Google and Netflix which have a mass public users of broadband Internet, welcomed the net neutrality regulations as a way to stop the service providers from manipulating the web content. Republican Pai, who was serving as one of the FCC commissioners at the time, was not agreed with the older rules and opposed it that time and decided to support ISPs, who claimed that the Obama administration’s move was leading to even greater regulation.
Now that the election of Donald Trump has propelled Pai into the agency’s top position, he has the chance to undo a number of the rules he had recently voted against.

    WHAT CAN YOU DO?

Such rules and laws by the US government which seems to supports the corporate more than caring about the internet users in the US are way to dangerous and a massive threat for internet privacy in USA. The best and most secure tool is to use a VPN service along with adopting some privacy measures, (read our ultimate privacy guide to know more) so you can avoid such snooping from ISPs in American and protect your data online.
